Dude...Perfect!

An often-heard criticism in the Midwest when it comes to startup companies is the availability of funding is limited.

Tell that to the trick shot gurus from Dude Perfect as WICHITA-BASED Highmount Capital, a private investment firm focused on early growth-stage and middle market investments in transformative technology, media, and growth-oriented platforms, just announced a $100 MILLION investment. Absolutely incredible.

The money is here, now we just need to build the companies here in Wichita.

An event that should not be overlooked is the Friendly 5K which is an untimed event for duos who want to have fun. It does require you to have a partner to join!

It can be husband-wife, bestie-bestie, grandma-grandchild, you name it. Partner up and get to running!

The long-awaited re-opening of the Andover YMCA finally has a date: May 20th.

After the April 2022 Tornado hit the Y, it has taken a couple of years to get back on its feet.

CIVIL

Jackie Robinson Statue Update

The new 42 statue will be installed in early August and it will be identical to the original.

This comes after the first one was stolen and chopped up last year.

A GoFundMe page raised $200,000 for League 42 last year and the MLB donated $100,000 for the statue and to secure the area.

Wichita Jazz Festival

The Wichita Jazz Festival kicks off its 52nd year tomorrow! They have some big names this year.

Spring Work Day

Head to the Great Plains Nature Center this Saturday to help clean up and prep our beautiful park for a beautiful spring and summer! No need to register, just show up, help work, and get a free lunch (while it lasts)!

Andover Fire Station 2

While we’re in Andover, this Thursday, April 18th at 6 pm, the new Fire Station will host a grand opening.

When I say this fire station is impressive, that is an understatement.

Scooter Curfew

If you thought curfew was over when you moved out of your parents’ house, the Veo scooters around town would say otherwise.

They currently shut off around 9.

This could potentially be lifted as more people want to ride at night. All scooters would be required to have headlights and reflectors then.

Roller Skating Scene

I have not been roller skating for quite some time, but I do love going.

Adult night on Fridays at Carousel Skate Center certainly seems like a party like I imagine it was back in the 1980s.

We currently only have 3 major rinks in town, but there has been a bump in interest lately. Celia Hack with KMUW did a great deep dive on the subject.

Kelsey Grammer is coming to Century II April 27-28 with Candide which is a brilliant comic operetta. I’m a bit young to have watched Frazier, but I do know it was a big deal!
