If you thought it was hot over the weekend, it was. It was actually a record-breaking heat of 111 (the previous record was 106).

Is Old Town in trouble?

One thing Wichitans dislike is walking far for anything, so parking comes in handy.

The Old Town cinema parking garage’s 2nd and 3rd floors were just closed indefinitely for safety and lack of traffic after a few things in recent weeks including the Old Town Warren closing.

Luckily, it sounds like things may be moving for the former Old Town Warren space. After going on the market in July, the space has seen 15-20 interested groups, from local to regional to national.

With 28,000 sq ft, 2 stories, and a fully operating kitchen, theaters, entertainment businesses, and restaurants are all interested in the space.

Whatever it is, we need it to spark something special back in Old Town again.

He is also opening the Just a Sip dirty soda business mentioned above.

But why stop there?

Sorrells just bought The Teahouse in Clifton Square and is planning out a new high-end whiskey, wine and tea bar. The Teahouse will stay up until August 29th, then comes ~3 weeks of construction before the whiskey butterfly comes out of its cocoon.

What is next for Derek Sorrells?

Hybrid-Electric Plane

Sylvie St-Georges and Mario Asselin founded and run a company called The AirCraft Company.

They are now working to develop a new 30-seat hybrid-electric plane which should takeoff by 2029.

Why not innovate aircraft in the Air Capital of the World?.

Well it’s back between Maize Road and 119th where traffic will be reduced to 1 lane each direction while it is resurfaced over 3 months.

WSU SOS

There is an event coming up at the WSU CAC Theatre called “Experiencing the Syrian Conflict: Reflecting Back Moving Forward”.

Students will be sharing their experiences, stories, and point of views and they also have guest speaker Omar Alshogre coming for the event.

Wild Lights Preview

Wild Lights is returning to the Sedgwick County Zoo this year with tickets going on sale September 1st!

Take a look at some of the ALL-NEW displays before they’re officially displayed.

The Last Five Years

“The Last Five Years” is the newest production (in this case musical) and Roxy’s Downtown.

It kicked off on 8/17 and runs until 9/2.

The story tells of the rise and fall of a relationship, where the lead actor and actress are actually husband and wife in real-life.
