NEWS

Riverfest and Elsewhere Festival

Maybe the most well-known festival in all of Wichita is the Wichita Riverfest.

People come for the food, the music, all of the other activities, and the people watching.

This year Riverfest is May 31 - June 8 and the full concert lineup has been released which includes: Hunter Hayes, Digital Underground, Monterey Jack, Starship, Kool & The Gang, Tag Team, C&C Music Factory, Rudy Love, Foghat, Tequila Ridge and many more.

That’s not the only festival in town though.

Elsewhere Festival and Conference will take place June 21 - 22 thanks to Midtopia.

There are some bigger names at this festival including Killer Mike, Vince Staples, Lane 8, and Steve Aoki.

Think of this as year 1 of Wichita’s “SXSW” conference. For reference, 700 people showed up to the first SXSW back in 1987. I think we will have that beat.

TOGETHER WITH ADVANCED ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOSCIATES

Emergency rooms are never fun.

You never know what you will find, but luckily if you have break, strain, strain, dislocation or other injury, you don't have to go to the ER.

You can go to Advanced Orthopaedic Associates (AOA NOW) at their new location - 9828 E. Shannon Woods, Suite 100.

They are here to help you with any sudden or urgent orthopedic injuries.

Their services are also less expensive than a trip to the ER.

Keep AOA in mind next time someone in the family gets a bad boo-boo.

BUSINESS

Opening

Connie’s Mexico Cafe

One of my favorite parts of Wichita is how supportive everyone is of each other, especially local businesses.

Connie’s Mexico Cafe is one of our favorite spots to eat. It is a family business with a lot of family involved.

Connie’s granddaughter Adele was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2019 and has been passionate about advocating for the amazing organization who has helped her with this incurable disease! She is doing a fundraiser for the National MS Society right now and the #WalkMS event is tomorrow 4/20!

Adele’s goal is to raise $1,000!

She has already beaten that by raising $1335, but what do you say we blow the goal out of the water?

CIVIL

City Jobs

We’ve highlighted the needs for a few jobs with the City Lifeguards, customer clerk at Tex Consolver Golf Course, Cashier with Wichita Parks & Rec,

But did you know there are currently 293 open positions with the city, including season opportunities?

How do we end homelessness?

That is the question that the coalition to end homelessness in Wichita and Sedgwick County is trying to figure out.

The goal is to connect people experiencing homelessness with the right housing resources.

No More Curfew

The Wichita City Council is apparently a fan of motorized scooters because they just lifted the nighttime curfew for these scooters in our community.

Now hopefully this ends with less scooters in the river instead of more.

WICHITA LIFE PARTY

Only 6 days left until our annual Wichita Life Party!

It is next Thursday, April 25th at the Commerce Club

There will be all the food you can eat, all the drinks you can drink, and all the tunes you can listen to. (more details on our eventbrite link)

We started this as an annual tradition and it has been a blast, you can check out highlights from our party last year here:

LOCAL

Correction

I’d like to correct our Wednesday email that shared a statistic about Wichita being the #5 city in the country where trafficking originates. I read this years and years ago and I believe originated in an article back in ~2006-2008 time frame.

This is very outdated and the data itself is already hard to track as it is.

That being said, human trafficking is a big issue, but we need to be better about sharing statistics that don’t have reputable sources.

Baby Elephants

What is cuter than a baby elephant?

5 baby elephants!

There are currently 5 pregnant elephants at the Sedgwick County Zoo and the soon-to-be mamas are Simunye, Talia, Xolani, Arusi, and Zuberi. There must be something in the water.

Alexa - how long is the gestation period for an elephant?

Elephants are pregnant for 18-22 months and the first of these babies is expected in early Spring of 2025.

Fore the Cure

Do you like helping people? What about playing TopGolf?

Kill two birds with one golf ball when you join the Fore the Cure fundraiser and tournament on May 4th!

ICT EXTRA

Nominate a First Responder

The Accident Recovery Team is giving away $250 a week. Nominate someone today!

Ghost Signs

Are these signs of ghosts? Or just signs from the past?
